Notable Cases and Firm News

  • Victory – Craig Bockman successfully obtained four defense awards in FINRA arbitration on behalf of major financial institutions.
  • Victory – Bill Turner prevailed on appeal of an order granting summary judgment in a putative class action, as well as on numerous motions to compel to arbitration.
  • Victory – Fredrick Rafeedie obtained an unconditional dismissal of an executive officer of a broker-dealer in a nationwide FINRA arbitration alleging fraud in connection with the sale of tenant-in-common interests.
  • Victory – Tom Fleming and Bill Turner successfully defended a brokerage firm in several multiple-claimant arbitrations.
  • Victory – Craig Bockman and Kasumi Roddick successfully obtained several arbitration awards and court judgments providing for the expungement of customer complaints from the securities industry records of FINRA-registered representatives.
  • Deals – Usman Mohammed closed $120MM of leasing and purchase/sale transactions.  His leasing representations included the headquarters relocation of Popcornopolis and Millennium Products (GT’s Kombucha).
  • Settlements – Bill Turner, Asha Dhillon and Kasumi Roddick negotiated and achieved a favorable settlement in the total amount of $137,000 for a security company prior to certification of a putative class of security guards alleging wage and hour violations and seeking damages and penalties of $2 million.
  • Settlements – Asha Dhillon successfully settled over 20 employment cases on behalf of businesses defending claims by current or former employees.
  • Presentations – Kevin Fitzgerald was selected again by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) to speak at SIFMA’s Compliance and Legal Society annual seminar to representatives of securities firms, banks and asset managers.  He addressed issues relating to strategies for arguing damages in securities cases.
  • Presentations – Asha Dhillon and Kevin Fitzgerald presented before employers and religious organizations concerning compliance with new employment laws and best practices. 
  • Presentations – Usman Mohammed was selected by Colliers International and Cushman & Wakefield to give presentations about the real estate contracts promulgated by the AIR Commercial Real Estate Association.  He continues to publish the leading blog on AIR contracts.
  • Promotions – Kasumi Roddick was promoted to partner at Jones Bell.  She focuses her practice on employment litigation and counseling in various industries.  She also maintains an advisory and counseling practice to help employers stay compliant with complex and evolving employment laws and to manage risk, reduce liability exposure and promote litigation avoidance. 
  • New Attorneys – Austin Schaefer joined the firm as an associate attorney after recently graduating from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.  He currently focuses on all areas of business and securities litigation.
